And when you look up at me and say I hope you aren't just saying this to get in my pants I scramble to respond with whaaat? nooo ofcoursenotiwouldneverdothat But what I really mean is: I would never do that because I'd much rather sit with you up high on rooftops overlooking the snow flittering down on people below. I'd much rather read quietly in your bedroom and listen to the wonderful silence sometimes interrupted by the turning of a page or maybe a tiny gasp of shock from the twist. I'd much rather slide this poem over to you while we sit side by side studying sheepishly looking at your eyes as they weave left to right over the lines silently hoping for a squint of joy. I'd much rather hold your hand while we walk on the street at night fingers frostbitten from winter because we refuse to wear gloves lest we forget what it's like to feel each others touch. I'd much rather share a pair of headphones with you the wired ones you bought because you were tired of losing the others I'd much rather listen to whatever new music you found with those headphones jam-packed shoulder to shoulder on the subway with one bud in your ear and the other in mine and nothing but the wire running down the middle between us I'd much rather drift asleep on your shoulder as we watch a movie because we had been talking about our dreams for hours and showing my soul makes me drowsy but I would never do that because you might think I'm trying to get into your pants
